Digging deep into its venerable vault, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) Home Entertainment Sept. 8 said it will release family classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for the first time on Blu-ray Disc Nov. 2.
The digitally remastered 1968 film starring Dick Van Dyke will be distributed by 20th Century Fox Home.
Noteworthy is that Fox will package the film separately as Blu-ray/DVD and standard amaray DVD/Blu-ray combo packs for $34.99, each designated for standard-definition and high-definition retail shelf spaces, respectively.
The film was released originally on DVD in 1998 with a special edition released in 2003.
The Blu-ray release includes two new features: “Toot Sweet Symphony” melody maker and interactive “Chitty Chitty’s Bang Bang Driving Game.”
Other Blu-ray bonus material includes “Remembering Chitty Chitty Bang Bang with Dick Van Dyke”; “A Fantasmagorical Motorcar”; Sherman Brothers’ rare demos of the film’s most popular songs; the vintage featurettes “The Ditchling Tinkerer,” “Dick Van Dyke Press Interview” and “The Potts Children Interview”; a photo album; a vintage advertising gallery, including English and French versions of the theatrical trailer and several television spots; a music machine and a sing-a-long version of the film (also on DVD).
