MPAA Names New Senior EVP, General Counsel14 Nov, 2013 By: Chris Tribbey
The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has named Steven Fabrizio as its new senior EVP and global general counsel, following Fabrizio’s help in several prominent legal wins against online piracy sites.
Fabrizio played a role in the MPAA’s victory over cyberlocker Hotfile.com, and helped negotiate the settlement that led to the shutdown of file-trading site Isohunt.com.
At MPAA, he will oversee legal, content protection and rights management programs for the group.
“Steve has been one of the entertainment industry’s most effective advocates for years, and has the perfect blend of knowledge, skill and experience to lead the MPAA’s already talented legal team,” said former Sen. Chris Dodd, MPAA chairman and CEO. “As the MPAA’s new global general counsel, he will continue to protect the rights of our industry’s creators and makers so they can do what they do best: tell stories that entertain audiences across the globe.”
Fabrizio added: “MPAA’s advocacy for its studio members is more important today than it has ever been. I am thrilled to be joining an MPAA team that I have respected and admired for many years.”
