Vivendi Picks Up Toddler Series26 May, 2009 By: Chris Tribbey
Vivendi Entertainment has landed the rights to “eebee’s adventures,” the toddler series from Every Baby Co.
The agreement covers DVD and digital distribution for the series, which has garnered more than 20 national parenting awards and more than 8 million on-demand views.
“The response from the traditional press, experts, blogging community and especially real babies and real parents to eebee’s playful back to basic approach has been phenomenal,” said Stephen Gass, co-founder and president of Every Baby Co.
Vivendi will re-release three eebee titles immediately, with Exploring Real Stuff, All in a Day’s Play and Figuring Things Out each including three stories, “Play-By-Play” commentaries, mini-music adventures and video Q&A’s with infant learning experts. Vivendi will also launch Spanish-language versions of the DVDs in the fall, and has slated more eebee DVDs for 2010.
Soumya Sriraman, EVP of marketing for Vivendi, said the DVDs and accompanying toys are being placed first in places like FAO Schwartz and Barnes & Noble, with mass merchants targeted next. She also said that Vivendi is experimenting with new special features for the eebee line, like karaoke and interactive games.
“Seldom do you get to build a brand from the ground up,” she said. “This is a category with a lot of room to grow, with a lot of demand. The whole point of these DVDs was to make a ‘mommy and me’ series.”
