20th Century Fox Home Entertainment June 16 will release a 50th anniversary edition of The Diary of Anne Frank on DVD ($19.98) and Blu-ray Disc ($34.99) — four days after what would have been Frank’s 80th birthday.
Director George Stevens’ take on the famous diary of a 13-year-old Jewish girl hiding in an attic in Amsterdam with her family during World War II won three Academy Awards, including best supporting actress for Shelley Winters. The book upon which it is based has sold more than 31 million copies and has been translated into 67 languages.
The 1959 film also stars Millie Perkins (Wall Street) as Frank, alongside Oscar-winner Joseph Schildkraut, Ed Wynn, Lou Jacobi, Richard Beymer and Diane Baker.
Both the DVD and Blu-ray contain a commentary with George Stevens Jr. and Perkins, as well as new bonus features including a new introduction and a making-of featurette with Stevens Jr., interviews with Perkins and Baker, a featurette on Winters, another on the film’s score, a featurette on the letters written between Stevens and Stevens Jr. during the making of the film, and a featurette on the Fox legacy. The Blu-ray includes several more featurettes, including footage from a press conference with Stevens and Perkins’ screen test.
