The psychological thriller Abandoned, featuring the late Brittany Murphy in her final role, will see a DVD and Blu-ray Disc release this summer, via Anchor Bay Entertainment. The company announced the acquisition Feb. 11.
“Anchor Bay established its reputation by releasing some of the most thrilling films on the market, and Abandoned is a movie that delivers,” said Kevin Kasha, SVP of acquisitions for Anchor Bay. “Abandoned has the kind of twists and turns that will have the audience guessing until the end, and keep them talking after.”
The film follows Murphy’s character as she frantically searches for her boyfriend, who has vanished without a trace after checking into a hospital. The film also stars Dean Cain, Mimi Rogers and Peter Bogdonavich.
Murphy died in December.
“Releasing this young actress’s last film is both an honor and bittersweet,” said Anchor Bay president Bill Clark. “It was important to Anchor Bay that the timing of this release be right, because we’re sensitive to such a tragic loss. However, we also recognize that Brittany’s fans will want to see her amazing work.”
