Erik Lomis

The Weinstein Co. has tapped former Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios home entertainment executive Erik Lomis as its new president of theatrical distribution and home entertainment.

At Weinstein Co. Lomis will be responsible for day-to-day management of the company’s DVD, Blu-ray Disc and digital distribution business — including the company’s distribution partnership with Anchor Bay — as well as theatrical distribution of Weinstein Co. and Dimension Films titles.

“I’ve long admired Harvey and Bob Weinstein as producers, distributors and passionate film advocates, so this is a very exciting move for me,” Lomis said.

Lomis was president of MGM worldwide theatrical distribution, home entertainment and acquisitions. He was with MGM for more than 15 years. Prior to MGM he was head of the national film department at United Artists Theaters.

“It’s one thing to make a great, entertaining movie; it’s another to make sure that film finds its audience,” Weinstein Co. co-chairmen Harvey and Bob Weinstein said in a statement. “Erik works tirelessly and creatively to devise the optimum distribution plan for his films, whatever the genre, wherever the viewers. Having him at the helm of distribution is a boon for [Weinstein Co.] and for every filmmaker we work with.”
