Ben Weinberger to enhance OTT video service’s search and recommendation functions
Search and discovery of content are key components of over-the-top video — a prerequisite perfected by Netflix. Now Sling TV, the nascent subscription streaming TV service founded by Dish Network, is upping its profile with the hire of Ben Weinberger as chief product officer.
Weinberger, who reports to CEO Roger Lynch, is co-founder and former CEO of Digitalsmiths, a video recommendation firm across multiple portable devices now owned by TiVo.
“[The] influx of programming makes it increasingly important that our content discovery process connects consumers quickly and seamlessly to the sports, shows and movies they love. Ben’s background makes him the ideal fit to lead our effort in creating a world-class next-generation TV experience,” Lynch said in a statement.
Weinberger helped pioneer the development of video discovery software making it easier for consumers to find personally relevant programming across multiple devices. The company’s products are used by 70% of the Top 10 domestic multichannel video program distributors.
Weinberger and Lynch previously worked together when Lynch served as a member of Digitalsmiths’ board of directors.
