Netflix Sept. 14 named DreamWorks Animation veteran Melissa Cobb VP of kids and family content. Based in the LA office and reporting to CCO Ted Sarandos, Cobb heads a team responsible with expanding Netflix’s kids and family content series and event programming, including animation and live-action.

“Melissa brings a wealth of experience creating and overseeing series and feature films that resonate with kids and families across the globe,” Sarandos said in a statement.

Indeed, Cobb most recently was CCO and head of studio for Oriental DreamWorks, based in Shanghai, China — Netflix’s largest untapped standalone market.

Cobb oversaw all aspects of the U.S./China collaboration, including creative oversight of all projects in development and production, business strategy, production strategy and slate of animated feature films. She spearheaded animated adventure comedy Everest, slated for global release in 2019 from Universal Pictures.

“My goal … is to offer a diverse slate of great, powerful and timeless family entertainment with global appeal, and to be creator and talent friendly, while striving for the highest quality in everything we do,” Cobb said.

Prior to joining Oriental DreamWorks, Cobb served as a producer at DreamWorks Animation, responsible for all aspects of producing animated feature films, including the Academy Award-nominated "Kung Fu Panda" trilogy.
