Joe Jackson Discusses Blu-ray Venture1 Jul, 2009 By: Chris Tribbey
Hollywoodinhidef.com’s Scott Hettrick landed an interview with Michael Jackson’s father, Joe Jackson, June 29 to discuss Joe Jackson’s recent mentions of a new Blu-ray Disc music company.
Joe Jackson earned media criticism for plugging the new venture, more than once, so soon after his son’s death June 25. The new company is called BlueStar Disc Technologies.
Hettrick said Joe Jackson’s partners in the venture — Erick Hansen and Marshall Thompson — have extensive experience in the Blu-ray and music businesses, and that BlueStar Disc Technologies could yield some music releases in the future, with BD Live and other enhanced Blu-ray features.
“Given the background of the people involved … they certainly are capable of doing this,” Hettrick said. “When and in what form [is unknown].”
Thompson is a founding member of the Chicago-based soul group The Chi-Lites and has started a music label with Joe Jackson, while Hansen was a pioneer in DVD technologies before starting Spokane, Wash.-based BlueStar Technologies, an independent Blu-ray replication and packaging company, in 2007.
