Former Genius Exec Passes Away at 463 Dec, 2012 By: Chris Tribbey
Christine Roerden Martinez, former GM and EVP for Genius Products, died Nov. 17 in Houston. She was 46.
Martinez came over to Genius in late 2005 after serving as VP of nontheatrical franchise marketing, at Warner Home Video. She left Genius in early 2009.
A native of New York City, Martinez was named one of the 2007-2008 Women of the Year by Video Business. She was a graduate of Brazoswood High School in Clute, Texas, and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas in 1988.
After ending her career in the home entertainment industry, she and her husband, Martin, worked in education, with Martinez working as a substitute teacher in the Brazosport Independent School District. Martinez was also a Girl Scout troop leader, participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, the March of Dimes walk, the March for Babies, Run for Her (which deals with ovarian cancer awareness) and "A Time to Read."
Martinez was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Roerden; grandparents, Emil and Clara Roerden and Charles and Viola Von Ende. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Martin Martinez; father, Kenneth Roerden; father- and mother-in-law, Rocky and Ophilia Martinez; sister, Alysha Yelverton and her husband, Guy, and their children, Jacob, Henry and Emilia; brother-in-law, Matthew Martinez, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The cause of death was not listed.
