As part of its annual scholarship program, the Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA) has awarded Ayush Kumar of Milwaukie, Ore., $4,000 per year for up to four years to attend college.
Ayush Kumar is the son of Jai Kumar, who is an employee of EMA member company Ingram Entertainment.
“We are impressed with Ayush’s academic success, idealism, and dedicated commitment to serve others,” said EMA president and CEO Mark Fisher. “He exemplifies the best attributes of the next generation, and it gives us tremendous pleasure to support his education.”
The EMA Scholarship Foundation affords member companies the opportunity to provide financial assistance for employees and their spouses and children. EMA has awarded more than $1 million to more than 230 students since 1987.
A graduate of Oregon City High School, Ayush Kumar was born in Fiji and immigrated to the U.S. at an early age. He will be attending Concordia University in Portland, Ore. In addition to the scholarship, Kumar received a basket of DVDs from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, Magnolia Pictures, Millennium Entertainment, Screen Media, WEA and Warner Home Video.
“This scholarship isn’t just a check, it’s a blessing for my family and me,” Ayush Kumar said. “Ever since I came to the United States, I’ve had a goal centered on going to college and fulfilling my dream to help others medically around the globe. I’m so grateful to the EMA Scholarship Foundation for helping me make this future attainable. This award has given me much more than just money for college. It has instilled confidence and courage in me to pursue my future aspirations.”
