Dish Names Sling TV's Erik Carlson New Corporate CEO

Dish Network Dec. 5 announced the promotion of COO Erik Carlson to CEO, replacing Charlie Ergen, who remains chairman of the board while focusing on the satellite operator’s wireless initiatives.

A 20-year executive with Dish, Carlson most recently headed the company’s online television service, Sling TV, following the departure of founder/CEO Roger Lynch.

Carlson leads a revamped corporate structure with Warren Schlichting upped to EVP and group president of Sling TV. Schlichting was formerly EVP of marketing, programming and media sales. He retains oversight of the Dish media sales and programming departments.

John Swieringa succeeds Carlson as COO, overseeing all operational departments supporting Dish Network, Sling TV and wireless groups, including customer support centers, in-home installation workforce and IT department.

Chief Technology Officer Vivek Khemka joins Carlson's leadership team, supporting Dish Network, Sling TV and the wireless business. Khemka’s team is responsible for technology strategy, product management, engineering, product development, supply chain management, broadcast operations and OTT delivery.

"I have every confidence that under Erik's leadership our new organizational structure will deliver value for Dish TV and Sling TV and will aid our entry into wireless,” Ergen said in a statement.
