Paramount Digital Entertainment (PDM) Nov. 2 said it partnered with Kingston Technology to deliver full-length feature films on portable Flash drives when that market develops.
PDM, along with Paramount Home Entertainment, is a unit of Viacom-owned Paramount Pictures.
Considered a next-step alternative to packaged media (and currently being tested in Japan), entertainment content delivered through kiosks onto USB and SD cards could help accelerate consumer adoption of SD-compatible portable media players and mainstream digital delivery of movies.
Indeed, Blockbuster Express and e-Play rental kiosks, unlike Redbox kiosks, both include SD card slots for future dissemination of movies and TV shows.
"This unique agreement enables PDE to make available its entertainment offerings on USB and SD cards," said Alex Carloss, EVP and GM of PDE. "As more and more movies are viewed on computers and other portable devices, having a relationship with Kingston will become increasingly important to Paramount for years to come."
Paramount Digital Entertainment last month launched on social network site MySpace (www.myspace.com/circleof8) the first three episodes of a 10-part original supernatural thriller series called “Circle of Ei8ht.”
