NBC Sunday Night Football Sponsored by 'Schmucks'

Dinner for Schmucks

In a marketing move some might call brilliant, Paramount Home Entertainment’s Dinner for Schmucks was an official sponsor (not just advertiser) of the Jan. 3 NBC Sunday Night Football broadcast that featured two losing NFL teams hoping to make or avoid history.

Schmucks, which streets Jan. 4 on disc and digitally, is a lowbrow comedy about a corporate executive (Paul Rudd) who attempts to showcase himself by bringing a bumbling fool (Steve Carell) to his boss’ dinner party.

Announcer Al Michaels repeatedly mentioned the movie during of the game’s third quarter, which saw the Seattle Seahawks hold off the St. Louis Rams and make history by becoming the first team with a losing record (in a non-strike season) to advance to post-season playoffs.
