LOVEFiLM Inks Streaming Deal With Paramount in Germany31 Oct, 2011 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Agreement comes on the heels of similar pacts between LOVEFiLM and Entertainment One, Optimum Releasing and Studiocanal
LOVEFiLM has signed an agreement with Paramount Pictures that enables its subscribers in Germany to stream the studio’s movies when available in the country’s pay-TV window.
London-based Lovefilm, which operates Europe’s largest (70,000 titles) by-mail disc, VOD and streaming service, is owned by Amazon. Its most popular subscription plan gives subscribers two discs out at a time with unlimited streaming for $15.78 a month.
“We are thrilled to announce this deal for exclusive subscription on-demand rights with Paramount and be able to offer their impressive range of films before any other pay-TV provider,” CEO Simon Calver said in a statement. “This agreement adds to the ever-growing, quality content that LOVEFiLM members are able to watch instantly, anytime they want.”
Netflix last week said it would launch streaming service in the United Kingdom and Ireland beginning in 2012. That announcement has prompted LOVEFiLM to upgrade and expand its budding streaming platform, including license agreements with Studiocanal, Option Releasing and Entertainment One, among others.
