‘Imagine That’ Second Paramount Title Available on Blu-ray Before DVD
19 Aug, 2009 By: Chris TribbeyEddie Murphy’s family comedy Imagine That will be the second title from Paramount Home Entertainment’s new strategy to initially release films on Blu-ray and on DVD as a rental only before the sellthrough DVD. The Blu-ray Disc version will street for sellthrough Oct. 6, the same date as the DVD rental release. However, DVDs won’t be available to purchase for at least a month after that initial street date.
Also starring Martin Sheen and Thomas Haden Church, Imagine That earned about $16 million at the box office. Both the DVD and Blu-ray will include a set tour with star Yara Shahidi, behind-the-scenes featurettes, a commentary track with director Karey Kirkpatrick and Shahidi, deleted scenes, and outtakes.
The Sept. 8 release of Dance Flick will be the first title under the studio’s new strategy, which seeks to take advantage of the recent boost in consumer rental revenue, while also driving consumer adoption of Blu-ray. DVD sellthrough versions of films released under this strategy won’t appear at retail for four to eight weeks after the Blu-ray release.
