Nintendo Bows Video Controller for Wii U20 Dec, 2012 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Nintendo Co. Dec. 20 launched software enabling its new Wii U console to navigate TV programming and video streaming.
Dubbed TVii, the software allows users to control video streams on a connected TV from Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon Instant Video, the e-commerce behemoth’s transactional VOD and electronic sellthrough platform.
When the original Wii adopted a Netflix app in 2010, it became the most popular device for Netflix subscribers to stream content to the TV behind the PC, according to Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo America.
TVii also allows users to interact on social media when watching sports or related programming. It cannot remotely control content stored on cable and satellite TV operators’ DVRs.
