Nintendo Adds Netflix, Hulu Plus to Wii U

5 Jun, 2012 By: Chris Tribbey

The Wii U, successor to the Nintendo Wii and due out during the fourth quarter of this year, will include Netflix, YouTube, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant Video and more, the company said June 5.

Nintendo also noted that the system will be backwards compatible and will play Nintendo Wii games. Wii peripherals, including controllers, will also be compatible.

The console will feature 1080p video and a controller with an embedded touch screen, allowing for “asymmetric game play,” where two players in the same game can have different experiences at the same time.

Nintendo will also debut a new network communication system with the Wii U, Milverse. The network will allow gamers to find new content, chat with other gamers, share their personalized characters and accomplishments, and access other entertainment content.
