Yankees DVD Set Includes Historic Footage, Interviews

7 Sep, 2003 By: Erik Gruenwedel

As the New York Yankees attempt to deny perennial rival Boston Red Sox the rights to an Eastern division title yet again, on Sept. 16 aficionados of Major League Baseball's best-known franchise can purchase for $24.99 the two-disc DVD release 100 Years Of The New York Yankees: Pinstripes, Power & Pride.

Produced by Major League Baseball Productions and distributed by New York-based Hart Sharp Video, the DVD features more than five hours of Yankees history, including exclusive player interviews, game action and historic footage.

“The thing that excites me about this project is that it details the history of the greatest sports franchise of all time,” said Joe Amodei, co-founder of Hart Sharp Video.

“Whether or not you're a fan of the current Yankees, everyone is a fan of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio.”

Much of the content -- which includes Gehrig's “luckiest man” farewell speech, and newsreel footage of Ruth signing his first Yankees contract and at a public speaking engagement (in Boston, no less) -- originally premiered on the Yankees' YES Network cable station in conjunction with the team's season-long 100th anniversary celebration.
