9 Dec, 2005 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Thanksgiving week's wild launch of Microsoft's Xbox 360 video game console helped increase video game rental spending 44 percent, according to projected sales data by Rentrak Corp.

For the week ended Nov. 27, game rental revenue increased from $17 million to $24 million.

The top 10 Xbox 360 rental games: Call of Duty 2, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Madden NFL 2006, Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo: Elements of Power, NBA Live 2006, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006, Gun, Project Gotham Racing 3 and Peter Jackson's King Kong.

“The video game rental market experienced its best week yet this year,” said Brad Hackley, VP of Home Video Essentials at Rentrak. “While many consumers are still waiting to get their hands on 360 consoles, current 360 owners contributed 3 percent to the weekly game revenue. This is a significant contribution considering 18 games were available at the time of launch.”
