A Florida woman spent the Thanksgiving weekend in the hospital after being knocked unconscious Friday by a surging crowd of early-bird shoppers vying for $29 DVD players at a Wal-Mart Supercenter in Orange City, Fla., according to the Associated Press.

Paramedics reportedly found 41-year-old Patricia VanLester, who had been first in line for the 6 a.m. store opening, atop a DVD player surrounded by shoppers many of whom appeared oblivious to her condition.

A Wal-Mart spokesperson said she had never heard of a similar incident during a sale. Store officials reportedly offered to put a DVD player on hold for VanLester.

Wal-Mart said it set a single-day sales record of $1.52 billion for the day-after-Thanksgiving sale, eclipsing last year's mark of $1.43 billion.
