'Will & Grace' Series Finale Out Quick on DVD12 Apr, 2006 By: Erik Gruenwedel
The shrinking release window has dipped below a week as Lionsgate and NBC Universal Television Distribution May 23 street the “Will & Grace” series finale on DVD — five days after the episode's network airing.
The 45-minute finale to the eight-year Emmy Award-winning show, which stars Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes, will retail for $9.98; prebook is April 26.
This marks just the third time a prime-time television series finale is released on DVD within a week of its network airing. Warner Home Video and HBO Video released series finales of “Friends” and “Everybody Loves Raymond” in 2004 and 2005, respectively.
Lionsgate will release season five of “Will & Grace” later this year.
“The final episode of ‘Will and Grace' marks the end of an era,” said Lionsgate president Steve Beeks. “While the show's success can be measured in so many ways — awards, ratings, longevity, acclaim — it is really about the ability of the viewers to identify and relate to the characters that made us want to tune in each week. We are well aware that this final episode will become an instant must-have piece of television history, and we jumped at the opportunity to be able to bring it to DVD so soon after its television airing.”
