'Wild' Founder Sent Up the River24 Apr, 2007 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Publicly chiding the judge during settlement talks in his federal lawsuit apparently didn't pay off for Joe Francis. The troubled founder of the lucrative “Girls Gone Wild” DVD franchise has reportedly been sentenced to 35 days in jail. U.S. District Court Judge Richard Smoak ordered Francis incarcerated when he was found in contempt of court for failing to reach a deal in the civil case with a group of women who alleged they had been filmed in Florida in 2003 when they were underage.
During negotiations with the women, Francis reportedly told the press Smoak had “gone wild.”
