Wild Dispute May Pin Down Games

29 Nov, 2002 By: Holly J. Wagner

A legal battle in which the Worldwide Fund for Nature won the rights to the WWF logo that World Wrestling Entertainment once sported was unlikely to keep the wrestling video games off the shelves over the holidays, game publisher THQ reported.

The wildlife fund served WWE with a demand for a $90 million settlement payment Nov. 9 and that wrestling products using the logo be off the shelves by Nov. 10, revoking an extension until Feb 10, 2003.

New games with the WWE logo and shipments with the WWF logo that went out before Nov. 10 were not affected, but the dispute may force THQ to write down $1.6 million in unshipped games bearing the old WWF logo.
