25 Apr, 2007 By: Thomas K. Arnold

Home entertainment industry veteran Barry Gordon has been hired by The Weinstein Co. as its executive VP of home entertainment.

Gordon, who previously spent seven years at independent DVD supplier Image Entertainment, will report directly to Bob and Harvey Weinstein.

He will be the company's liaison for its activities in home entertainment, working closely with Trevor Drinkwater, CEO and president of Genius Products, The Weinstein Co.'s exclusive home video distributor. The Weinstein Co. owns 70% of Genius.

Gordon will be based in The Weinstein Co.'s Los Angeles office. He will work with Michelle Krumm and Maeva Gatineau, the film company's executive VPs of acquisitions, in acquiring direct-to-DVD titles and building a library. He also will work with Genius on the launch and management of such brands as Dragon Dynasty and other new labels.

In a joint statement, Bob and Harvey Weinstein expressed confidence “that Barry's experience and success at Image in building up categories of programming will benefit both TWC and Genius and allow us to maximize our product in the marketplace.”

Before he joined The Weinstein Co., Gordon was senior VP of worldwide programming at Image Entertainment. He played a key role in driving the company's successful programming initiatives in feature film acquisition and production.

Gordon also created and developed niche markets for Image, such as standup comedy, urban, Latino, special interest and music. He also worked in sales and business development, expanding the company's distribution into new classes of trade.
