Wayans Bros. New Kids Property Under Way for Videos26 Jan, 2005 By: Angelique Flores
Keenen Ivory, Marlon and Shawn Wayans have announced plans to launch Thugaboo, their first endeavor into a children's animation property. Based on the Wayans' own original source material, Thugaboo is a broad character-based property that takes a humorous look at the trials and tribulations of nine kids growing up in the inner city. Through a series of misadventures, the characters learn valuable lessons from the importance of friendship to never giving up on one's dreams.
The Wayans — the brains behind the TV series “In Living Color,” Scary Movie, Scary Movie 2 and White Chicks — will support the property by producing, writing and lending their voices to a direct-to-video series that is already under way. Additionally, they have inked deals with toy company Playmates, consumer products company The Betesh Group and children's book publisher Scholastic for products that will follow the launch of the video series, targeted for the 2005 holiday season.
The Wayans recently partnered with trading-card company Topps to launch “The Dozens,” a new trading card game arriving in spring 2005. They also signed a deal with Bonus Mobile to develop and publish “The Dozens” as a multiplayer mobile phone game.
