Warner's Got More ‘Friends'23 May, 2002 By: Jessica Wolf
“Friends” may be leaving the TV airwaves after next season, but the $6 million sextet has only begun to sate video buyers' appetites, and the second course is on the way.
Warner Home Video last week announced the studio will release Friends: The Complete Second Season Sept. 3 (prebook Aug. 6) -- just in time for the fourth-quarter buying frenzy and in time to coincide with the show's final season.
The title will arrive in four-volume DVD ($69.98) and VHS ($49.98) boxed sets and will include all 24 episodes from the show's second season as well as never-before-seen footage.
The announcement follows Warner's April 30 release of the Complete First Season boxed set, which debuted at No. 10 on VideoScan's top DVD sellers chart and sits at No. 21 for its second week in stores.
Though Warner has released several collections of “Friends” episodes with its “Best of Friends” video series, the studio put together the chronological set in response to consumer demand for complete seasons.
This second-season release announcement comes quick on the heels of the show's strongest ratings take with the season finale, which aired May 16 and garnered a 23.6 overall rating and a 35 percent overall share.
