13 Nov, 2006 By: John Latchem

Warner Home Video and Warner Bros. Television have started production on Babylon 5: The Lost Tales for a direct-to-video release in 2007. Jeff Brown, SVP and GM of nontheatrical franchise at WHV, and Gregg Maday, SVP of movies and miniseries at WBTV, made the announcement today.

“We are very excited to be releasing this new made-for-video release filled with original content for ‘Babylon 5,' one of the most successful science-fiction series of all time,” Brown said. “This is the first time we're utilizing one of our popular TV franchises as a made-for-video title, and we have a strong commitment to the growth of this sector.”

The DVD will include two new “Babylon 5” stories, collectively titled “Voices of the Dark,” plus exclusive behind-the-scenes content. The stories will be written and directed by executive producer and “B5” creator J. Michael Straczynski.

“Babylon 5” ran for five seasons in the mid-1990s and garnered a loyal fan base with its ongoing tale of a multispecies space station of the future. All five seasons and several spinoff telefilms have been released previously on DVD by Warner.

Participating actors from the original series include Bruce Boxleitner, Tracy Scoggins and Peter Woodward.
