Warner Kicks Off Football Season27 Jul, 2005 By: Thomas K. Arnold
The football season is starting early, at least on DVD. Warner Home Video Aug. 2 will release three NFL titles, all of them historical retrospectives.
The Complete History of the Pittsburgh Steelers and The Complete History of the Chicago Bears are two-disc sets retailing for $26.95 each. The Pro Football Hall of Fame — 85 Years of Greatness is a three-disc collector's edition priced at $39.92.
“These titles portray the greatest moments and performances in the NFL, giving fans the opportunity to witness the glory years of their favorite teams,” said Norbert Hudak, director of sports marketing for Warner Home Video.
At the same time that it is releasing these three new titles, Warner will repromote 11 NFL catalog titles, including all three of its five-disc Super Bowl retrospectives, by cutting the wholesale cost to as little as one-third the suggested retail price. The studio promises a $1 million media plan — a lot of money for sports titles — heavy on local advertising in Pennsylvania and Chicago markets.
