Warner Highlights USC Football, Globetrotters14 Sep, 2005 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Following a bye this past weekend, the University of Southern California Trojans football team may be out of the spotlight for a week. Still, Warner Home Video, in association with Collegiate Images and USC, is keeping the reigning national champions on retailers' minds with the new DVD release The History of USC Football ($19.98).
Though the Trojans would appear to be rewriting history in pursuit of a record third straight national title, the storied program's legacy of 11 championships and six Heisman Trophy winners is underscored in the DVD by numerous individual performances, lesser-known accomplishments and the coaching personalities of Howard Jones, John McKay, John Robinson and Pete Carroll, among others.
“The USC Trojans are a highly decorated team, which makes this a must-have DVD for Trojan fans,” said Norbert Hudak, WHV director of sports marketing.
That also goes for The Harlem Globetrotters: The Team That Changed the World ($19.98 DVD), he said. The Oct. 18 release marks the first ever DVD title in a new home entertainment distribution deal between WHV and the Globetrotters. An undisclosed number of titles will be released on an ongoing basis to coincide with the beginning of The Harlem Globetrotters World Tour in December.
Narrated by rapper Chuck D., the 60-minute title includes interviews with Bill Cosby, Phil Jackson, Henry Kissinger, David Stern, Larry Brown and assorted NBA players. The extras feature a world record 12-foot-high dunk (NBA rims are 10 feet high), tricks of the Trotters, uncut video of the 1950 World Tour, highlights of the Trotters playing college teams and perennial foe the Washington Generals.
