By Erik Gruenwedel | Posted: 17 Dec 2008

Warner Home Video inked a distribution deal for new and catalog anime DVDs from Viz Media beginning April 1, 2009.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

San Francisco-based Viz, whose largely nontheatrical anime DVD properties include “Naruto,” “Bleach,” “Death Note” and “Inuyasha” franchises, in addition to the Pokémon animated television series and catalog features, was previously distributed by Simon & Schuster.

Initial DVDs under the new agreement slated for release April 7 include Naruto Uncut Box Set 13, Naruto Uncut Box Set 13: Special Edition and Hunter X Hunter Vol. 2.

Previous Warner anime distribution ventures include “The Animatrix” and John Woo’s “Appleseed: Ex Machina.”

“We are looking forward to a successful relationship with Viz Media, one of the top players in the anime genre and children’s animation,” said Jeff Brown, Warner EVP and GM, TV, family and animation. “The association between WHV and Viz demonstrates our continued commitment to the growing sector of anime.”
