Warner Bows ‘DC Comics' Series

To premiere its new “DC Comics Classic Collection” brand, Warner Home Video (WHV) is releasing something old and something new.

The 1970s animated-series collection Challenge of the Super Friends: The First Season (two discs, $29.98) will be joined by the 1990s series Batman: The Animated Series Vol. 1 (four discs, $49.98) on store shelves July 6 (prebook June 8).

Extras on the Batman set include a featurette, producer commentary on two episodes, an interactive tour of the Batcave and a promo for the pilot to the animated “The Batman” series, which will debut on TV in the fall.

DVD extras in the Super Friends set are a retrospective featurette, video bios of the heroes and villains, and commentary from two DC Comics writers from today on two episodes.

Both sets will include “Movie Money” for up to $12 toward the purchase of an adult ticket to Warner Bros.' DC Comics' superhero film Catwoman, starring Halle Berry, hitting theaters July 23.

Releases in this Classic brand will be different than the upcoming DC Kids brand. “We wanted to be able to differentiate them at retail,” said Dorinda Marticorena, WHV's executive director of kid entertainment.
