Warner 'Blazing' Path for Additional HD DVD Titles

18 May, 2006 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Warner Home Video May 23 will release the Oscar-nominated thriller The Fugitive and Mel Brooks' comedy classic Blazing Saddles on HD DVD for $28.99 each.

That brings to 11 the number of high-def titles Warner has brought to market or slotted into the pipeline. The others, all already out, are The Last Samurai, The Phantom of the Opera, Million Dollar Baby, Goodfellas, Swordfish, Rumor Has It…, Training Day, Stanley Kubrick's Vietnam War drama Full Metal Jacket and Clint Eastwood's Oscar-winning Western Unforgiven and.

The Fugitive (1993), which stars Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones, was based on the 1960s TV series about a surgeon falsely accused of killing his wife.

Blazing Saddles (1974) stars Cleavon Little as an unlikely sheriff in the town of Rock Ridge, Harvey Korman as the villain, Madeline Kahn as a Marlene Dietrich-style chanteuse, Gene Wilder as the wacko Waco Kid and Brooks himself as a not-too-sharp politico.

Bonus materials from the standard definition DVD versions of each of the two titles will be included on the HD DVD versions.
