Walden on the Amazon

11 Nov, 2002 By: Hive News

For the first time, Waldenbooks customers have the option of shopping with their favorite mall book retailer online at a new Waldenbooks teamed with Amazon.com e-commerce Web site (www.waldenbooks.com), which opened today.

Like the Borders teamed with Amazon.com site (www.borders.com) launched last year, the new Waldenbooks.com site offers customers Amazon.com's vast selection of books, music and movies along with its editorial reviews, personalization and recommendations, 1-Click(TM) ordering and other benefits. Amazon records purchases made on the Waldenbooks.com site as sales, and a percentage of sales from the site go to Borders Group, the parent company of Waldenbooks.

"This site is yet another step in the evolution of the successful alliance Borders Group forged with Amazon.com in 2001," said Waldenbooks president Ron Staffieri. "Waldenbooks now provides our customers with unparalleled service and selection online while we continue to focus on what we do so well -- providing products our customers love with an attractive, convenient shopping experience."

"We're honored that Borders Group has chosen Amazon.com to power their new Waldenbooks.com online store," said Eric Broussard, Amazon.com VP of partnerships.

Waldenbooks.com boasts it offers the world's largest selection of book, music and movie products online. It also features a Waldenbooks store locator and offers Waldenbooks electronic gift cards online.

The Waldenbooks.com site also features a link to information about Waldenbooks' Preferred Reader, which claims approximately 3 million members. While Preferred Reader customer loyalty program members cannot earn points or apply program discounts to purchases made at Waldenbooks.com, the new site does offer Amazon.com's discount structure, including 30 percent off books over $15 and free shipping on orders over $25. Preferred Reader $5 Savings Certificates will continue to be valid only for in-store purchases and Walden-by-Mail orders.
