Wal-Mart Sells Toshiba HD DVD Player for $98

1 Nov, 2007 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Forget Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving when retailers entice holiday shoppers with extreme price discounts.

Wal-Mart, a pivotal Black Friday player, Nov.2 will jumpstart the tradition three weeks by offering Toshiba's HD-A2 HD DVD player for $98.87.

The player, which began the year priced at $499, was recently retail priced at $300.

The Bentonville, Ark.-based retailer is also selling all HD DVD movies for $14.96 each.

The sale, at retail stores only, is valid through the close of business Nov. 4., according to a Wal-Mart spokesperson.

He didn't believe the pricing affected the separate mail-in offer from the HD DVD Promotions Group of five free HD DVD titles with the purchase of an HD DVD player.

The spokesperson said the player was among secret price reductions on five select consumer electronics items.

Other items include an electric Fisher-Price NASCAR toy car for $144.72, Sanyo 50-inch Plasma HDTV for $998 and Acer laptop computer for $348.
