30 Oct, 2006 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Wal-Mart Stores Oct. 30 announced that Garth Brooks has sold nearly 20 million discs — a company record — in the first year of an exclusive distribution deal with the country music artist.

The Bentonville, Ark.-based retail behemoth made the announcement two days before the scheduled exclusive release of Garth Brooks: The Entertainer, a five-disc DVD box set ($19.96) that features 15 music videos and related footage from several concert tours, including “Reunion Arena in Dallas” (1991), “Texas Stadium in Irving” (1993), “Dublin, Ire.” (1997), and “Central Park in New York” (1997).

Wal-Mart's first Brooks release, “Garth Brooks: The Limited Series,” sold 500,000 audio CD units in the first 24 hours of release and 6 million units after two weeks.
