Wal-Mart Cutting HDTV Prices3 Nov, 2006 By: Erik Gruenwedel
The world's No. 1 retailer is not waiting to “Black Friday,” the day after Thanksgiving when retailers pull out all the discount stops for holiday shoppers, to lower the boom on flat-panel HDTV prices.
Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart announced that beginning this month through Dec. 31, it would sell the Panasonic 42” HD plasma TV for $1,294 (from $1,794), the Polaroid 37” LCD HDTV for $997 (from $1,297) and the RCA 32” LCD HDTV for $847 from $997.
“We've lowered prices so that families can afford to get and give more of the best brands and technology in electronics this season,” said Gary Severson, SVP and GM manager electronics, Wal-Mart Stores.
The price cuts come as Wal-Mart has reportedly predicted flat same-store sales in November.
