VSDA Show: Retailers of Year Announced

DMK Entertainment, the 43-store Blockbuster franchise based in Birmingham, Ala., was named Large Video Store Chain of the year during the VSDA's 2003 Retailer of the Year awards during the Home Entertainment 2003 opening ceremonies.

DMK owner David Kahn joined other award-winning retail colleagues in collecting awards chosen from nominees selected based on business practices, operational policies, marketing and merchandising programs, customer service, and involvement in VSDA.

“I want to thank DVD for reinventing our whole industry,” said John Booth, owner along with his wife, Gayle, of nine-store Video Depot, Palm Desert, Calif., as he collected his award for best Mid-Sized Video Store Chain.

The winners are:
Independent Video Store
(single-store operations): Beyond Video, Charlottesville, Va., owner Halsey Blake-Scott

SmallChain Video Stores
(2-5 stores): Rain City Video, Seattle, Wa., owned by Mark Vrieling

Midsized Video Store Chain
(6-20 stores): Video Depot, Palm Desert, Ca., owned by John and Gayle Booth.

Large Video Store Chain
(20+ stores): DMK Entertainment, Inc., Birmingham, Ala., owned by David Kahn

International Retailer
(non-U.S. video stores): Beverly Hills Video, Poland, owned by Jack Messer and partners
