VSDA Lays Off Four Senior Staffers2 Aug, 2002 By: Kurt Indvik
Four director-level staffers and an office staffer at Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA) were laid off yesterday in a cost-cutting move, the organization confirmed.
The move comes as the VSDA deals with the financial ramifications of a greatly reduced annual trade show and convention that has, in the past, contributed a significant portion of the association's annual revenues. This year, net income fell short of budget, and the association expected to only break even or a little better from the event. According to minutes from the recent VSDA Board of Directors meeting for the five months ended May 31, there was a significant shortfall in dues income as well as “unrealized investment losses.”
According to a source within the VSDA, the layoffs were “a difficult decision. These were all valued members of out team, but it was a necessary action.”
Those laid off were: Tim Barkas, director, member communications, education and Web site content; Jessica Blum, office support coordinator; Celeste Day-Drake, director, marketing and creative services; Darlene Oliver, director, conferences and partnerships; and Kelli Warren, director, public relations.
