Video Plus Wins 'Amazing Transformation'30 Jun, 2006 By: Jessica Wolf
The Independent Dealers of Entertainment Association (IDEA) is kicking off this year's VSDA Convention in Vegas with the winner of its “Amazing Transformations” contest.
The IDEA board selected Video Plus, owned by Jeanne and David Chamberlain in Rice Lake, Wis., to get a business makeover via input from their peers and a free consultation with industry vet John Farr.
The owners will meet with fellow iDEA members of at the convention in Las Vegas July 11-13. During the July 10 pre-show indieFEST, members will brainstorm and advise the Chamberlains on everything from merchandising and buying tactics to an overhaul of business practices.
“We expect indieFEST attendees will be able to better relate to a real-life retailer, instead of a fictitious case study … and they'll be able to go back with real examples and suggestions that they can apply to their own stores," said iDEA chairman Jim Loperfido. "It was a tough decision choosing one retailer for the project, but Video Plus best exemplified the balance we were looking for; the desire for improvement, and the drive to accomplish it."
Video Plus owners will report back to the group on changes at iDEA's indieEXPO in November.
The Chamberlains have been in business for 14 years and said they've been looking for ways boost lagging sales. The couple said they've already implemented some ideas from chapter events and are open to any and all suggestions.
“We're very excited,” said Jeanne. “A little scared, but thrilled to be getting advice from other retailers and industry experts. There's a lot of work to be done now.”
