VIAAC Becoming EAA16 May, 2006 By: Jessica Wolf
The Video Industry AIDS Action Committee (VIAAC) is changing its name to the Entertainment AIDS Alliance (EAA).
“Entertainment AIDS Alliance better reflects the goals, activities and membership of the charity, which have evolved and changed significantly over the past 17 years,” said EAA president Sue Procko.
VIAAC was founded in 1989 by journalist Marc Berman, who covered the home video industry for Daily Variety and passed away from the disease in 1993.
To date, EAA — a grassroots effort managed almost entirely by volunteers — has raised more than $3.6 million. It has donated funds to more than 200 local and national organizations that provide client services to people living with AIDS; institutions that conduct research for AIDS treatment and prevention; and lobbyist groups which promote public policy that advances AIDS issues.
More than 90% of all money raised is ultimately distributed.
