Verizon's FiOS TV Hits 1 Million Mark

28 Jan, 2008 By: Chris Tribbey

Verizon now has more than 1 million customers for its FiOS TV service, less than 28 months after it launched, making it the 10th largest cable provider in the country. During a financial call to investors Jan. 28, Verizon also announced that soon more than 6 million U.S. households will have access to the service.

“Some experts doubted that we could come this far this fast,” said Virginia Ruesterholz, president of Verizon Telecom. “We launched FiOS TV just 28 months ago in one Texas market.”

Verizon reported that it added 226,000 FiOS TV customers in the fourth quarter of 2007, for a total of 736,000 during the year.

Verizon FiOS plans to have 150 high-def channels by the end of the year. The service is available to customers in California, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas and Virginia.
