Urban Vision Bows AsiaVision20 Jan, 2006 By: John Latchem
After making a name for itself with hit anime titles, Urban Vision Entertainment is branching into Asian live-action films with its new AsiaVision line.
The brand launches this spring with a limited theatrical release of the Japanese hit Azumi, which will debut on DVD in second-quarter 2006.
AsiaVision's inaugural DVD release — Curse, Death & Spirit — arrives March 7, with a prebook date of Jan. 30. The film, a trilogy of ghost stories, is from Hideo Nakata, director of Ringu and The Ring 2.
The slasher film Kill Devil follows April 4 (prebook Feb. 27). Both DVDs are $19.95.
“Just as Urban Vision's anime titles have primarily focused on action and horror, so will AsiaVision be specializing in those areas,” said Robyn Mukai, marketing manager of Urban Vision.
A specialty label is nothing new for Urban Vision, which also has “Li'l Vision” for children's anime and “Ciudad” for Latino films. The new line will be distributed through several sub-distributors, including Ventura.
