Universal's 'Virgin' Scores Big

14 Dec, 2005 By: Thomas K. Arnold

Consumers snapped up 2 million copies of The 40-Year-Old Virgin its first day in stores, Univeral Studios Home Entertainment reported.

The studio said a national “hairiest chest waxing contest” — mimicking the pains “virgin” Andy Stitzer (Steve Carell) goes through in the film to get some action — helped build awareness for the film, which arrived on DVD Dec. 13 in both ‘R'-rated and unrated editions.

The latter features 17 additional minutes of footage not seen in theaters.
