Universal Says <I>8 Mile</I> Breaks Two Records

Breaking two records, consumers spent nearly $40 million to buy upwards of 2 million copies of rapper Eminem's hit movie 8 Mile its first day in stores, Universal Studios Home Video reported. That's the highest first-day spending total for an ‘R'-rated title and for any March release, according to Universal SVP Ken Graffeo.

“We're projected to be one of the biggest ‘R'-rated DVDs of all time,” Graffeo said of the March 18 release. Other top ‘R'-rated sellers include Gladiator and The Matrix.

The 8 Mile disc, available in both censored and uncensored versions, contains such extras as as never-before-seen rap battle outtakes as well as Eminem's new music video, "Superman," available only on the 8 Mile DVD.
