Universal Pictures has tapped Bill Mandel to oversee digital production ventures as VP, broadband technology.
Mandel will continues to work in the Motion Picture Technology Office, which is exploring the implementation of digital and other technologies for the production and delivery of motion picture entertainment. He will report to Jerry Pierce SVP, Universal Pictures.
"Bill's hi-tech experience and knowledge of the rapid advancements in video to the home allow him to contribute to our knowledge pool as we pursue new digital services," Pierce said.
Mandel joined the studio in 1996, and recently has been serving as director in Universal Pictures Technology Office. Previously, he served as manager, Universal Studios Digital Video Compression Center. He was responsible for development and supervision of DVD Authoring.
Prior to his tenure with Universal Studios, Mr. Mandel served as a software developer at Xontech and earlier as a radar design analyst at Hughes Aircraft Missile Systems. He MSEE degree from USC and a BSEE from Penn State.
