Universal Is Already Promoting ‘Scorpion King' DVD Online

25 Apr, 2002 By: Jessica Wolf

Universal is putting the sting on potential Scorpion King DVD customers.

On the studio's Web site is a promotion for The Scorpion King Movie Club. For $29.95 plus shipping and handling, VIP Edition club members get an official movie poster, a t-shirt, a baseball cap, computer downloads and for a limited time, a free movie ticket to The Scorpion King. The Ultimate Collector's Edition membership costs $69.95 and comes with even more memorabilia and $20 in “DVD Cash” to purchase the DVD once it streets. Similar to New Line's offer this year for Lord of the Rings fans, Scorpion King club members will get their names listed in the DVD's credits. Either club purchase gets the customer entered in Universal's “Fit for a King” sweepstakes, which includes a stay at the Luxor in Las Vegas.

Also, site visitors can provide the e-mail addresses of five friends for a free DVD. If all five sign up for a fan club membership, the referring shopper chooses one of the following Universal titles: The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, Meet the Parents, Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park III, The Fast and the Furious, Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Bring It On and U-571.
