Universal Drops HD DVD Prices

Universal Studios Home Entertainment is dropping its prices on its HD DVDs.

Beginning Aug. 8, 14 of the studio's HD DVD titles are being repriced at $29.98, the same price as a new-release standard-DVD. New HD DVD releases for September also are being listed at $29.98.

The repriced titles include Apollo 13, Assault on Precinct 13, The Bourne Supremacy, The Chronicles of Riddick, Cinderella Man, Doom, Friday Night Lights, Happy Gilmore, Jarhead, Pitch Black, The Rundown, Serenity, U-571 and Van Helsing.

Sept. 12 new releases include Red Dragon, Seabiscuit and Traffic. Sept. 19 new releases include End of Days and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. All are $29.98.

Universal also is streeting HD DVD/DVD combo discs, beginning Aug. 8 with National Lampoon's Animal House and Unleashed, and Sept. 19 with Dazed and Confused and George A. Romero's Land of the Dead, at $34.98 each.
