Two More Shipping Centers for Netflix19 May, 2003 By: Hive News
Netflix today announced the opening of two new shipping centers to serve the greater Chicago and St. Louis areas, part of its strategy to expand one-day service to as much of the nation as possible this year.
"Netflix members who already love our service for its convenience, value, and selection are thrilled with the added benefit of one-day delivery," said Netflix CEO Reed Hastings.
The two Midwest-based shipping centers are capable of providing more than 12 million people in portions of Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, and Arkansas with generally one- or two-day delivery, Hastings said.
The openings of the two facilities bring to 20 the total number of Netflix shipping centers operating throughout the United States. In addition to the Chicago and St. Louis sites, Netflix runs shipping centers in Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, Newark, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Portland, San Jose, Stamford, Seattle, and Washington, DC, metropolitan areas.
By year-end 2003, the online rentailer hopes it will be able to reach approximately 70 percent of its subscribers with generally next-day delivery.
