While the Oscars have all been announced, fans are still waiting for the envelope on Oscar-winning video release dates.
Wait no more for the latest in the crop: Universal Studios Home Video's A Beautiful Mind and Gosford Park, and Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment's Black Hawk Down.
The $165 million box office A Beautiful Mind took away best picture, best director, best supporting actress and best adapted screenplay Oscars. It streets June 25 (prebook May 7) as a two-disc DVD Awards edition – in widescreen and pan & scan versions -- for a minimum advertised price (MAP) of $22.95 and as an Awards Edition VHS (prebook May 21) for $14.95 (MAP). In addition to other extras, the DVD will include a 22-minute featurette, "Inside a Beautiful Mind," with interviews with cast and crew and the real-life subject of the dramatic film, John Nash. The VHS will have a shorter version of the featurette.
Also from Universal Studios Home Video, Gosford Park streets June 25 (prebook VHS June 4, DVD May 21) on VHS (priced for rental) and collector's edition DVD ($19.95 MAP). Among the DVD's extras are director's and screenwriter's commentary, deleted scenes and three featurettes. The film made $40 million in theaters, and Julian Fellowes got a best screenplay Oscar for his work on the Robert Altman period murder mystery.
Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment's $109 million box office Black Hawk Down hits streets June 11 (prebook VHS May 14, DVD May 21) and is $27.96 on DVD and rental-priced on VHS. The downed-helicopter war drama left Oscar night with best sound and best film editing awards. Director Ridley Scott is hard at work on a special edition with a to-be-announced release date, said a spokesperson.
